Biotech Scholars

The Biotech Scholars’ Program is a college career access program for high school students and their families who are interested in lab science or biomanufacturing with the end goal of cure medical conditions and illnesses or contributing to cutting edge scientific medical treatments. This program offers education about Biotechnology, college credit courses toward your degree and paid apprenticeships the summer after graduating high school. With successful completion of all parts of program, a successful student will be perfectly positioned for a job offer in the industry while they complete their college degree.

What is Biotechnology/Biomanufacturing?

Biotechnology is the use of biology to solve problems and make useful products. It uses cellular and biomolecular process to develop products that help improve our lives and the health.

This field is advancing rapidly in our region and it has more and more applications in our day-to-day lives: from pharmaceutical development to food production and the treatment of polluting waste.

Many companies in our region specialize in biotechnology as they design breakthrough products and technologies to combat debilitating and rare diseases, reduce our environmental footprint, combat hunger, use less and cleaner energy, and have safer, cleaner and more efficient industrial manufacturing processes.
